Executive Producer, Pilobolus
Before joining Pilobolus as its first Executive Creative Director in 2004, Itamar studied philosophy at Yale, ran theaters in Germany and Sweden, directed plays by John Guare, co-directed the 2002 season finale of "The West Wing," and made a film, "Upheaval," starring Frances McDormand.
At Pilobolus, Itamar increased the Pilobolus brand footprint to over 1 billion people around the world digitally, and over 5 million people live, in 69 countries. To provide a pipeline of innovative content for this work, Kubovy created the Pilobolus International Collaborators Project (ICP), a critically acclaimed art innovation engine and production company that creates transmedia projects and performances in collaboration with artists and thinkers from diverse fields. Recent collaborators include pulitzer prize winner comics artist Art Spiegelman, Macarthur award winner Basil Twist, the MIT Distributed Robotics Lab, Steve Banks, head writer of SpongeBob SquarePants, the illusionists Penn & Teller, and the rock band and Internet sensation, OK Go, with whom Kubovy conceived and co-directed a Grammy-nominated interactive video, All is Not Lost.
Itamar is also the founder of Pilobolus Creative Services, a bespoke movement production company that applies our artistic innovations to the design of live experiences for best-in-class brands and institutions. Clients include the Atlanta Hawks, The NFL, The US Olympic Committee, AT&T, Ford, Hyundai, Porsche, Hermes, Google, and the Academy Awards.
Convening creative minds from diverse backgrounds to innovate analog entertainment and live experience on diverse platforms, Kubovy curates the Design Leadership Council for the Freeman Company, the world's leading provider of brand experiences. The council, convened by Freeman Chief Design Officer, award-winning design industry legend and author Bruce Mau, has a mission to collaboratively push the future of design for the brand experience category.Highlights of Kubovy's career with Pilobolus include a TED Talk/performance, an Emmy nomination for the Pilobolus/NFL ad spot, and commissions from Oprah, Ellen, Stephen Colbert, MTV's VMAs, and the Queen of England.
